About the Project

The Disability Arts Touring Network is a group of arts organisations and venues committed to developing disability arts in their regions and across areas of the UK. Funded by Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring funds and co-ordinated by DaDaFest, the project aims to:

  • Raise the profile of and engagement with disability arts
  • Present high quality disability arts in locations with the least engaged arts audiences
  • Share learning in what is required to deliver accessible and inclusive work

Network Members

2014 Touring
The touring programme for 2014 is currently being developed, a number of exciting artists brought to the UK to perform at DaDaFest will also tour across the UK. ‘One Of Us Will Die’ by Kiruna Stamell and Gareth Berliner was performed at the Citadel, St Helens on 7 February 2014. Watch this space! Further tour dates will follow.

2012 Touring
In 2012 artists including musician Benny Prasad (India) and storyteller David Roche (Canada) toured as part of the project.

Review: The Ugly Girl: A Musical Tragedy in Burlesque by Terry Galloway

This no-holds barred musical examines what it means to be the typical Ugly Girl adrift in a comically hostile universe through slapstick, music and dark humour. Starring Julie McNamara and Liz Carr, The Ugly Girl is reviewed by Roger Cliffe-Thompson as 'a classic of it's genre'.

A wildly comic twist on the stereotype of a queer, disabled, intellectual trouble-maker, featuring an international cast of disabled actresses including Liz Carr (Silent Witness) and Julie McNamara (Let Me Stay). This no-holds barred musical about what it means to be the quintessential Ugly Girl adrift in a comically hostile universe is full of slapstick, music and dark humour. Presented as part of a tour to develop disability arts.
